Canmore Community Daycare Society and Bow Valley Before & After School Programs

“Exciting News for the children, staff and community”

Attention: Parents, Team members, Friends and Community Stakeholders,

As we celebrate our 40th anniversary of providing outstanding child care in Canmore, the Canmore Community Daycare Society is elated to announce that, effective May 1, 2018, the Society has been selected as an Alberta appointed Early Learning and Child Care Centre.

THIS GRANT MEANS that the daycare will be able to reduce daily costs for all families to $25 per day, per child. The impact will not only be directly felt by each family, but this will also substantially improve the wage level we can offer to our staff, who work tirelessly for our children.

Through our rich, 40+ year relationship with our community and built upon our ability to foster new, innovative programs we were able to promote our centre as an earnest candidate for this funding. In essence this is a community effort that has been, years in the making. Through our remarkable story our Executive Director was able to exemplify our successes and demonstrate our community need for this funding.

Although this funding does not address the need for more spaces in Canmore it does address affordability. In this second phase of this pilot project $25 per day child care will be made possible through the Alberta grant, for all families attending the daycare Roundhouse portion of our operations.

This funding comes to us at a time when the Board of Director’s and Administration have been working to address our employees’ wages and were facing the potential of implementing a large fee increase.

The grant funding is available for a three year period and will cease on March 31, 2021. It’s important to note that it will be imperative for our organization to work toward a viable fee structure in Year Four.  Our fundraising and volunteer activities are paramount to continuing to operate a viable business model. The Society has made some significant adjustments to our budget to allow this program to be successful. As a result, we will operate on a tight budget over the three years.

As Early Childhood Educator’s we’re thrilled to be a part of developing the new Alberta Curriculum framework for enhanced early learning outcomes. We anticipate stronger linkages between our curriculum development and the home environment and look forward to embarking on this learning journey together.

Attached please find a fact sheet which further outlines some additional information in relation to the Alberta grant funding.

With Sincere Gratitude,

Cherri Hodgins, Executive Director
